Although everyone’s financial contribution to the work of God is different, there is a biblical tradition of using the tithe (10%) as a benchmark by which all of us can consider our giving. We encourage all to consider a future goal of offering 10% of their income to the work of God. For others, 10% is just the beginning of giving. Still others, might begin at 3% while some day striving for 10%.
For all of us, the ultimate goal is to have one single pledge so the parish can plan for the year. Please remember this as you discern your stewardship pledge.
To use the biblical method of tithing, first prayer fully consider what percentage of your income you would like to commit to the work of God. Will you offer the percentages described below – 5% for the parish offertory, and 5% for other charities? Next, calculate your weekly income. Locate your weekly income on the left side of the charts below. On the charts, look for the column that lists the percentage you wish to commit to the parish offertory. Follow that column to see the amount of money you will commit to the offertory.
For example, a family decides to give 5% of their income to the offertory. They calculate that they have a weekly income of $575. The second chart shows them that their commitment of 5% of their income to the offertory will amount to a weekly gift of $29.
