One seminary, two brothers

At a time when the U.S. church is fervently praying and diligently searching for vocations to the priesthood,
Notre Dame Seminary has a rare and hopeful story: two brothers, born five years apart, are studying to become priests for the
Archdiocese of New Orleans. Kevin DeLerno, 34, is five years younger than his older brother Chris DeLerno, 39,but he is further along in his seminary studies. Kevin is in the middle of his fourth and final year oftheological studies and hopes to be ordained to the priesthood in 2008; Chris is in his second year of theology at Notre Dame.

Latin Requiem Mass for All Souls Day

Jeff Geerling (seminarian at Kenrick) posted pictures from this year's All Souls Day Mass on his blog. Since the Mass fell on a Friday, they had a 1962 'Extraordinary Form' Mass, and used the Requiem Mass, complete with the singing of the Dies Irae, Gregorian Chant, and black vestments.

Craig Giera's painting and sculpting helped lead him to consider becoming a priest...Among the things he learned was that although he is artistically talented, his vocation is that of a priest. Now as a second-year theology student at
Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, with an expected ordination date of 2010, 29-year-old Giera is able to work on his art in a tiny room that was a student dormitory before it became a storage room.

40-year-old seminarian stops saying 'not yet' to God

Tom Lafreniere heard God calling him to the priesthood and for years answered the same way: not yet. His response changed when he hit his mid-30s. He entered the
St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in the fall of 2003. "I thought I was too old. I realized there are men older than myself in the seminary. I said, 'Why not?' A lot of us older guys bring skills that some people may not have," said Lafreniere, now 40 and one of 16 seminarians studying at various levels and institutions to become priests of the Diocese of Palm Beach.
