2014 Fortnight for Freedom
June 21- July 4, 2014

The bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee for Religious Liberty is emphasizing the link between religious liberty and service to the poor and vulnerable and has proposed the theme of- Fortnight for Freedom:  Freedom to Serve. During the fortnight, the liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power – St. John Fisher & St. Thomas More, St. John the Baptist, SS Peter and Paul and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. On the secular side, the U.S. Supreme Court may rule on the Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties cases during the fortnight. The www.Fortnight4Freedom.org website has additional information.

 The Chancery will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3 and will not be open Friday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day.  Voice mail can be used for messages.

 Deacon Convocation
July 11- 13, 2014

 Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration
July 12, 2014

 USCCB National Natural Family Planning Awareness Week
July 20-26, 2014

Each year the USCCB dedicates a week in July as National Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week (July 20-26, 2014).  This coincides with the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25), which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood.  The dates also mark the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother.  “Marriage 911”: You Can Save Your Marriage
August 15-17, 2014

“Marriage 911”– Retrouvaille is a program for married couples who feel bored, frustrated, or angry in their marriage. Some experience coldness and simply shut down. Others experience conflict and arguments in their relationship. Most don’t know how to change the situation or even communicate with their spouse about it. Retrouvaille has helped couples experiencing marital difficulty at all levels, including disillusionment and deep misery.  Adult Faith Formation/RCIA Workshop
August 9, 2014

The Adult Formation/RCIA committee invites all parish catechists and RCIA team to a workshop with Rich Harter, Director of the Office of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  The theme of the day is Converted and Conformed to Christ: RCIA as the Model and Method for all Adult Formation and Evangelization. The day will also include a practical discussion about providing the RCIA process as a collaboration of parishes. Dick and Judy Lyons, co-directors of the Superior city-wide RCIA program at Cathedral of Christ the King will focus on ‘Breaking Open the Word’ as an important part of the ongoing process.  Revised Diocesan Policies

Because of changes in State Law, two of the policies pertaining to Catholic schools have been updated: Policy #2145 – Diocesan School Calendar and Policy and Policy #2160 – Diocesan Schools Achievement Testing.  A copy of each policy is enclosed in this mailing.  They replace the corresponding policies in the green diocesan policy binder.  Contact Peggy Schoenfuss, Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, 715-234-5044, if there are any questions regarding these policies.
