Parishioners explain why the DSA is important to them
Giving to God with Grateful Hearts
The annual Diocesan Services Appeal (DSA) is a "united parish" campaign that funds over thirty vital services and ministries within our diocesan community. As wide-ranging as they are, they have one thing in common. They touch each one of us! The Appeal reaches across parish boundaries, tying us together with a common thread in areas of Education, Service, Worship, Prayer, Social Concern, Charity and so very much more.
Every diocese has an annual Catholic appeal much like the DSA. Ours has a strong and exemplary record of efficiently meeting the many vital needs of our faith community each year. Through the DSA, close friends of the Lord have an opportunity to sponsor multiple programs for youth and lay ministry. They advocate in many ways for the protection of life in our society. They pray for vocations to the ordained priesthood, encourage candidates, and befriend seminarians. They provide fundraising and assistance on grants for many community and Church projects. They regularly provide faith support for college students in the Newman Centers on college campuses. They provide the direction necessary for Religious Education and our Catholic School System.
It has been said that feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. How close we are to Christ, and the gratitude we express for all His blessings is measured by our giving.
Authentic disciples of Jesus Christ are intensely identified with their gratefulness. Their expressions of love can be found in the Church’s worship and in acts of charity and justice. Pope Benedict has reminded us in his recent encyclical letter that the Church, called together by God’s love, worships, proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world and works to spread God’s love. The Church has many organizations and movements that express our following of Jesus by working to help others in His name.
